MTH401 Differential Equations GDB Idea Solution Fall 2012 On February 2013

Dear students we have studied in differential equations that an analytical function can be represented in terms of the power series and also using power series we can always determine such an analytical function. In the following GDB, you have to find such an analytical function using the given power series. The limit on the summation is from n = 0 to n = infinity. I mean to say that this is infinite series and have finite sum. Very simple technique would be used here to find such an analytical function. I mean to say that do not use the power series technique to find such an analytical function. Just observe the behaviour and type of the given power series; you can easily find out the required function. Secondly, the interval of convergence of the given power series will decide the domain of the function and also the domain of the derivative of the function. Good Luck for all of them.

If
f(x) = Σ x n ; n = 0 to ∞
Then
Determine the function f(x).
Discuss the domain of f(x).
Discuss the domain of the derivative of f(x).

“ROLE OF MATHEMATICS IN BUSINESS AND ITS APPLICATIONS USING LINEAR EQUATIONS AND BREAK EVEN ANALYSIS.”
Solution: >Mathematics is an important subject and knowledge of it enhances a person’s reasoning, problem-solving skills, and in general, the ability to think. Hence it is important for understanding almost every subject whether science and technology, medicine, the economy, or business and finance. Mathematical tools such as the theory of chaos are used to mapping market trends and forecasting of the same. Statistics and probability which are branches of mathematics are used in everyday business and economics. Mathematics also form an important part of accounting, and many accountancy companies prefer graduates with joint degrees with mathematics rather than just an accountancy qualification.

Financial Mathematics and Business Mathematics form two important branches of mathematics in today’s world and these are direct application of mathematics to business and economics. Examples of applied maths such as probability theory and management science, such as queuing theory, time-series analysis, linear programming all are vital maths for business.

What are the algebraic advantageous applications of Laplace and Fourier Transforms? Give just one example with proper explanation.
Solution:
The Laplace transform is a widely used integral transform with many applications in physics and engineering. Denoted , it is a linear operator of a function f(t) with a real argument t (t ≥ 0) that transforms it to a function F(s) with a complex argument s. This transformation is essentially bijective for the majority of practical uses; the respective pairs of f(t) and F(s) are matched in tables. The Laplace transform has the useful property that many relationships and operations over the originals f(t) correspond to simpler relationships and operations over the images F(s).[1] It is named after Pierre-Simon Laplace, who introduced the transform in his work on probability theory.

The Laplace transform is related to the Fourier transform, but whereas the Fourier transform expresses a function or signal as a series of modes of vibration (frequencies), the Laplace transform resolves a function into its moments. Like the Fourier transform, the Laplace transform is used for solving differential and integral equations. In physics and engineering it is used for analysis of linear time-invariant systems such as electrical circuits, harmonic oscillators, optical devices, and mechanical systems. In such analyses, the Laplace transform is often interpreted as a transformation from the time-domain, in which inputs and outputs are functions of time, to the frequency-domain, where the same inputs and outputs are functions of complex angular frequency, in radians per unit time.

    Search engine optimization
    Laplace Transform

Given a simple mathematical or functional description of an input or output to a system, the Laplace transform provides an alternative functional description that often simplifies the process of analyzing the behavior of the system, or in synthesizing a new system based on a set of specifications.

Quality Issues in Education
Learning objectives:

• To check the quality of content in private and public schools
• To realize the importance of curriculum with reference to nation ideologies
• To identify various standard or quality issues in syllabuses Assignment

Over past few years, wide gulf in values, work preferences and lifestyles has been observed between traditionalists and modernists. As a result educational system is also influenced and two systems of education in terms of medium of instruction and curriculum prevail in Pakistan; the private English medium schools and the official Urdu- medium schools. In the context of quality, it has long been realized that curriculum in Pakistan is overextended, rigid and inflexible. For each province, a standard syllabus has been designed which is applicable to the entire community except private schools. The importance of curriculum can be realized through its power to transfer cultural values and reinforcement of the ideologies of a nation. Keeping in mind the importance of curriculum; you are supposed to perform following activity.

Audit Sampling Techniques and Verification of Expenses

Learning Objective: To enhance understanding regarding the sampling techniques in audit and verification of expense accounts.
Learning Outcome: After going through this activity, the students should be aware of the sampling techniques and the process applied to verify the expenses during audit.
The Case:
M/S Chartered Accountants (CA) - a well reputed audit firm with high QCR rating from ICAP provides its auditing and consultancy services to different business organizations in Pakistan. Limited Manufacturing Company (LMC) appointed CA as auditor of the company for the audit of FY2012. During the audit, CA used the judgmental sampling technique in order to find out any material misstatement that may have occurred in the financial statements of LMC.The similar sampling technique was also adopted for the valuation of two major building of the company located few miles apart. CA applied the sampling technique to verify the transactions that were expected to have high level of risk.

It was revealed during the course of the audit that the interest on loan borrowed for construction of the plant used for production purposes has been debited to the cost of that plant. Further, the accrued expenses were not recorded in the financial year under review as outstanding payments were made in the first week of the next financial year.
Required:
Keeping in view the above scenario; you are required to answer the following:
The judgmental sampling technique is appropriate for the auditing of buildings value and highly risky transactions or not? Explain with logical reasoning.
Interest is an expense but the accountant of the company has capitalized it as the value of plant. Being an auditor what do you think that this action of accountant is permissible or not? Explain with valid arguments as per relevant IAS.
You are required to evaluate whether treatment of accrued expenses by the accountant is justifiable? Support your evaluation with relevant accounting norm.

Important Instructions:

1. Your discussion must be based on logical facts.
2. Do not copy or exchange your answer with other students. Two identical / copied comments will be marked Zero (0) and may damage your grade in the course.
3. Obnoxious or ignoble answer should be strictly avoided.
4. Questions / queries related to the content of the discussion board, which may be posted by the students on MDB or via e-mail, will not be replied till the due date of discussion board is over.
